For some, life is very hard. But even in the worst moments – hope, faith and love are essential – and will permit the weary person to continue standing, fighting and looking forward – even when the past might weigh them down.
Recently a group from Village Church in the US, along with Fundacion Enciende Una Luz (or Light A Candle to some) – joined together to bring faith, love and hope to impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic. This work filled us with great joy.
This work we do is aimed towards Education, Prevention and Protection – these 3 words represent our mission. And so, we focus in these areas by implementing education stations that provide knowledge & tools for people to improve their health and lives. Some of the education for this week was centered on Blood Pressure Management, Foot Health & Care, Vision Care, First Aid, Dental Health & Care, and Spiritual Care. In addition, there was participation in our construction project to build a community health center.
On our first day we went to Batey 18 with our education stations. The second day we moved to Batey Altagracia, where we celebrated “Giving Thanks” with the community there. We played with the children – and we worshipped, sang, and ate a wonderful lunch together. On the third and fourth days, we worked with the education stations in two additional bateys.
We give our thanks to this Village Church group and their pastor Rev. Tom Are. They are proof of God’s love for us. Truly this was a labor of faith, hope and love.
